I offer private lessons for those who wish to deepen their relationship with music whether you are a complete beginner, an experienced player seeking new inspiration, or a professional looking to refine your artistic voice.
Offering
Approach
My approach is rooted in presence, deep listening, and curiosity. Technique and theory are important, but they are always in service of expression, connection, and finding your own sound.
Acoustic guitar
Develop tone, touch, rhythm, fingerstyle technique, accompaniment skills, and improvisation. Explore textures ranging from intimate and subtle to rhythmically powerful.
Alongside standard tuning, I am also specialised in DADGAD tuning, offering guidance in its harmonic possibilities, drone-based textures, and its connection to Irish traditional music and contemporary acoustic expression. Whether you are new to alternate tunings or wish to deepen your fluency, DADGAD can open new creative dimensions in your playing.
Electric guitar
Work with sound, dynamics, groove, effects, improvisation, and stylistic fluency. We can explore jazz, rock, world, experimental soundscapes, and beyond.
@ Olli Jakonen
Mandolin
Learn technique, articulation, traditional repertoire, and contemporary approaches. We can draw from Irish traditional music, global string traditions, and creative approaches.
Music Theory and Composition
Understand harmony, rhythm, form, and melodic development in a practical and inspiring way. Theory becomes a creative tool, not a limitation. We can work on songwriting, instrumental composition, arrangement, and developing your personal musical language.
Teaching Philosophy
Music is not only about mastering an instrument, it is about developing sensitivity, courage, and presence.
With years of experience as a composer, improviser, and intercultural collaborator, my teaching integrates:
Deep listening and awareness
Improvisation as a tool for learning
Rhythmic understanding rooted in global traditions
Understanding of dynamics from near-silence to full expressive power
Finding your own artistic voice
My time studying and collaborating in West Africa and Ireland, together with years of working across jazz, rock and global traditions, continues to shape how I listen, play, and teach.
Each student receives individual guidance tailored to their level, interests, and goals.
